17-year-old arrested for stealing an SUV, leading police on pursuit

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Hampton Police have made an arrest in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation Wednesday.

On April 24 around 6:15 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call from a concerned citizen near the intersection of Shawen Drive and Atwell Lane.

Once police were on the scene, they noticed a maroon Dodge SUV leaving the neighborhood. Police checked the car's information and learned that the SUV had been stolen from Norfolk.

The officer tried to stop the SUV. The SUV driver would not stop, which lead to a pursuit. As the driver and passenger were trying to get away on foot, the passenger was hit by the stolen SUV vehicle.

Officers chased the suspects down Bromley Drive, and the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

The driver, a 17-year-old, was arrested and charged with one count of Grand Larceny, one count of Felony Evade and Elude, one count of Felony Hit and Run, and one count of Driving without a License.
