GEORGETOWN, Del. (Delmarva Now) — A Virginia man faces multiple drug-related charges after police in Delaware found 1,500 bags of heroin in his car during a traffic stop Sunday morning.
On Nov. 11 at about 10:30 a.m., Georgetown police officers stopped a vehicle traveling south on DuPont Boulevard in the area of Shortly Road for a traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, officers detected an odor of marijuana and subsequently searched the vehicle.
During the search, police found about six grams of marijuana in the car's glove box. In the back seat, officers say they found a bag filled with 150 bundles of heroin, and each bundle contained 10 individual bags.
The driver, 26-year-old Tyrice Thomas of Virginia Beach was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity, which is the most serious charge because it is a greater amount of drugs. Thomas was also charged with possession of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Thomas was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $40,200 unsecured bail, according to police.
