HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - A Hampton man has entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter stemming from the death of his autistic son.

48-year-old Anthony Brooks faces up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 6.

The Daily Press reports Brooks entered his plea on Tuesday in Hampton Circuit Court. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction.

Brooks' 14-year-old son, Antonio Brooks, was found dead at the family's home on Oct. 28, 2013.

The newspaper says assistant chief medical examiner Dr. Wendy Gunther testified last year at a preliminary hearing that the boy's stomach ruptured. She said the boy could have been treated if he had been taken to a hospital.
