Norfolk police arrest 60-year-old in connection to string of robberies

Police arrested a 60-year-old man Monday who allegedly robbed four drug stores in 2 days.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police arrested a 60-year-old man Monday who allegedly robbed four drug stores in 2 days.

Police identified the suspect as Johnnie N. Jones of the 800 block of Tifton Street.

On Sunday, Jones successfully robbed two stores and attempted to rob at another. According to police, he was armed during the robberies.

The stores involved were:

  • Robbery to the CVS, 972 E. Little Creek Road, around 5:30 a.m.
  • Attempted robbery to the CVS, 3200 Lafayette Boulevard, around 9:10 p.m.
  • Robbery to the Walgreens, 115 W. Little Creek Road, around 9:25 p.m.

On Monday morning, around 10:45 a.m., police reported to the Walgreens at 810 W. 21st Street for a robbery. According to police, Jones entered the store and demanded money.

The clerk complied, and Jones fled the scene in a car.

Police located his car shortly after the robbery and attempted to stop Jones. However, he refused to stop and sped away.

The officer stopped following him because it was unsafe.

Police eventually found Jones' car in the 800 block of East Little Creek Road. Officers secured the premises and located the suspect.

Jones has been charged with three counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, four counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony and eluding police.

He is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail.
