NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A tow truck hit a tree killing the driver early Thursday morning, Newport News police said.
The call of a vehicle crash came in around 1:59 a.m. at Menchville Road and Warwick Boulevard.
Assistant PIO Brandon Maynard said a tow truck hit a tree and when emergency crews arrived the driver needed to be extricated from the truck.
The man died at the scene.
The department's Crash Team is investigating the crash.
One northbound lane on Warwick Boulevard is now open, police said.
The driver's name will be released after relatives have been notified.
