Woman charged with hit and run after leading Virginia Beach police on chase

Police in Virginia Beach arrested a woman whom they said led officers on a short chase.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A driver is in custody after hitting a pedestrian, then leading Virginia Beach police on a brief chase early Thursday morning.

Treniya Rejinae Deas, 20, of Virginia Beach was arrested and charged with felony hit and run and two counts eluding police.

Virginia Beach Police said officers witnessed an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Virginia Beach Boulevard at 1:57 a.m. 

Officers initiated a pursuit after the driver took off. The suspect's vehicle struck a police cruiser at one point during the pursuit, resulting in minor damages. 

The chase ended outside Bayside High School and Deas was taken into custody. No officers were injured and there was no damage to school property. 

The pedestrian in the initial crash was located and had minor injuries.

The suspect had minor injuries. The case is still under investigation but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
