RICHMOND, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia lawmakers are considering a law that would require seat belts in every school bus in the Commonwealth.

If the bill passes, the school systems would be required to make sure that each new school bus that is bought is equipped with a seat belt in every seat.

The bill also requires that all school buses in the Commonwealth are equipped with seat belts no later than July 1 2027.

The concerns of the lawmakers stem from constant accidents across the state that involve school buses.

The bill is currently under review.
