NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A university in Virginia has begun its search for a new president.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Norfolk State University is seeking nominations and applications for the school's seventh president. Melvin Stith was named interim president last November after Eddie Moore Jr. retired in December. Stith began working as interim president on Jan. 1, 2018.
A 21-member search committee is set to hold open sessions where members of the public can voice their thoughts on the search this month. There will be more sessions in August. Comments and nominations can also be made online at the school's website.
A university news release says the next president needs to understand the school's station as a historically black institution and the changing environment of higher education.
