NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- October 19 is World Pediatric Bone and Joint Day.

The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters has developed a Center for Bone Health to help with the diagnosis and treatment of bones in children and teenagers.

CHKD utilizes the skills of a team of healthcare providers to help our growing children.

What is the Center for Bone Health and what types of services should parents and patients expect?

  • Only Bone Health Clinic in Virginia exclusively for children
  • Comprehensive approach focusing on fracture risk, accelerating healing, and preventing re-fractures
  • Child will see entire bone health team: pediatric endocrinologists, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, dietitians, and exercise physiologists in one visit at one location
  • Patients will undergo a single comprehensive eval, including assessment by registered dietitian and exercise physiologist, if necessary.
  • Individualized care plan developed for each child, which may include lab testing, eval of bone density, medical treatments, nutrition interventions, physical activity recommendations, and follow-up care
