PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a woman from a cruise ship Monday evening from a cruise ship about 180 miles off the coast of Norfolk.
Coast Guard officials in Portsmouth received a call that an 87-year-old passenger had fallen and injured her hip aboard the 749-foot cruise ship Viking Sky and needed medical assistance.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew were dispatched from the Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City.
The Jayhawk crew met the ship at a rendezvous point, and hoisted the woman and her husband to the helicopter and took them to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk.
"Our thoughts are with the patient, and we wish her a full, speedy recovery," said Coast Guard Lt. Mitch Latta in a news release.
