NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The turkey and trimmings can do a number on your waistline. According to the Calorie Control Council, Thanksgiving dinner can cost you 3,000 calories.
To battle the holiday bulge, it's not a bad idea to work out for at least 30 minutes.
"Just start moving. Walking, walking is always good, you know, work up to a run if you can," said Eric Rothar, a personal trainer with Anytime Fitness Ghent. "Compound lifts, your deadlifts, bench press, squats. Those are gonna be important. Whatever you feel comfortable with."
He says enjoy yourself but in moderation.
"That amount of food in one sitting really leaves you lethargic and tired, you don't want that to get stored as fat you want to use that food for fuel," said Rothar.
Some people get their workout in as early as 4:30 a.m.
Torrie Creamer, who trains with Body by Ken, is making sure nothing gets in the way of her already 150 pound weight loss.
If you're busy cooking and can't leave home, the mother of three says there are fun ways to burn fat in your own backyard, involving the whole family.
"Grab a football, go outside, play some football with your family and friends, and this is something that you don't have to do alone," said Creamer.
