FRANKLIN, Va. — Hospital administrators placed the emergency department of one Franklin hospital on lockdown for several hours on Thursday afternoon.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the emergency sector of Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital went on lockdown after two patients walked into the department showing symptoms of exposure to an uncontrolled substance.
The lockdown went in place at 3:10 p.m. and was lifted at 6:45 p.m. after the substance was deemed to not appear hazardous.
The two patients are said to be in good condition.
Although the quarantine is lifted, Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate. VDEM and HAZMAT teams are on-scene, while the substance was collected for further testing.
