SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue extinguished a brush fire Friday afternoon.

Emergency Communications received the 911 call about a grassy field on fire in the 1100 block of Pitchkettle Road at 11:40 a.m.

Battalion Chief Chuck Knight said that because of the location of the fire, and wet ground conditions, the fire crew's larger equipment had limited access to the fire. Brush Trucks and crews had to pull a large number of lines and hoses to manually extinguish the fire.

About two acres of the grassy field was burned, and no buildings were damaged.

The Fire Marshal advised that the cause of the fire was determined to be a discarded cigarette from a surveying crew that was working in the area.
