Hampton Roads grocery stores offer Scan-Bag-Go shopping

The future of grocery shopping is now available at several local Krogers.

If you want to go shopping in the future, visit the Krogers located on Grafton and Battlefield Boulevard.

Kroger said those locations now have Scan-Bag-Go capabilities or personal scanners. According to Kroger, guests scan each item before putting them into a cart, and when it's time to check-out, customers scan the barcode at the self-checkout and pay the bill.

This is all done without having to bag or run items across the machine.

Kaitlynn Maness lives by the Kroger off Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, and she loves the new device.

"It seemed really easy. I just put in my alternate ID, and everything was right there at the touch of a couple buttons. If I were to come in and do a bigger trip, I think with the bags and cart and everything, I think it would be a lot easier to just put it on the cart,” said Mannes.

Jami Barker is a scan-bag-go manager, and she said the tool can also be used on an app on a smartphone.

"To start scanning groceries, you just press the scan button. You get to see a running total of how much you're spending, you get to download digital coupons,” said Barker.

However, not everyone was as enthused about the new way to go grocery shopping. Marquel Davis said he just prefers using a machine.

"I just wouldn't use it. I like going and picking up my stuff myself, I don't like to just scan and go. So, I like the self-checkout, because obviously it's a little bit quicker, and I like to scan all my stuff and bag all my stuff the way I like it bagged,” said Davis.
