Chesapeake family of 4 displaced after house fire

A Chesapeake family of 4 is displaced after their one-story home caught fire on Tuesday.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- A home was destroyed in the Jolliff section of Chesapeake on Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to the 4000 block of Oriole Drive at 12:23 p.m. Crews arrived on the scene 8 minutes after being called. They found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the one-story home.

Officials were able to extinguish the fire by 1 p.m. Three of the 4 family members were home when the fire started. Their fire detectors were working, so the family was able to safely get out.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
