Firefighters tackle Chesapeake house fire

The home's garage was significantly damaged, but the quick-working firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading much further.

Two adults and two pets are out of their home after a fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Chesapeake Fire Department, they received a call of a house fire just after 4:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Elbow Road. The first unit arrived minutes later, seeing the occupants outside of the home, and heavy fire coming from the garage area.

Firefighters took up a defensive position and were able to bring the fire under control at 5:03.  the fire was fully extinguished at 6:15 p.m.

Chesapeake Fire Lt. Tony Barakat said most of the fire was contained to the garage, with some damage to the rest of the house.

The occupants and their pets have made living arrangements while they are out of their home. 

No injuries are reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
