CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man is facing charges after he led Chesapeake police on a high-speed chase Wednesday morning. Police initially said the incident involved a teen.
Richard Shelton, 38, of Virginia Beach, is charged with felony eluding, driving with a revoked license, and failure to obey lane markings, Chesapeake police spokesman Leo Kosinski said.
Police tried to stop Shelton, who was driving a 2013 BMW, for a moving violation near the Campostella Road and Liberty Street intersection around 1:20 a.m.
The BMW stopped but then took off. Officers began to chase the car for about 10 minutes — until the BMW stopped near the intersection of Granby Street and Arden Circle in Norfolk, Kosinski said.
He said Shelton was driving around 100 mph during the chase.
After a foot chase, Shelton was taken into custody.
There was no damage or no one was injured.
The incident is currently under investigation.
