Police: Weather played role in fatal Chesapeake crash

Chesapeake police believe bad weather played a part in a car crash that killed one person Friday afternoon.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have identified the driver killed in a Friday afternoon car crash in Chesapeake.

Authorities believe bad weather played a role in an accident that killed 40-year-old Charles Micheal Perkins from Pasquatank County.

Officers responded to the 700 block of S. George Washington Hwy. along the canal bank regarding a call that a car ran off the road and struck a tree. Police say the vehicle was traveling southbound when the driver lost control and veered off the road.

Medics pronounced the Perkins dead at the scene.
