CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- The Chesapeake Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its former K-9 officers, Boomer.

Boomer served in the patrol and narcotics detection division for nine years alongside his handler, Special Police Officer J. Duncan.

A Facebook post says Boomer was not only an asset to his community, he also helped them fundraise for other police K-9s following his retirement in early 2017. He remained a part of the Duncan family until his death.
