Black ice causes truck to overturn near Newport News overpass

Watch out for black ice! Newport News Police said a pickup truck hit a patch of black ice this morning, causing it to overturn. The driver is OK.

HAMPTON, Va.(WVEC) — A Ford truck overturned near the J Clyde Morris Boulevard overpass due to black ice Thursday, Newport News police said.

Police received a call of a crash around 7:25 a.m. in the 500 block of J Clyde Morris Boulevard, Assistant PIO B. J. Maynard said.

Police said that a black Ford pickup truck lost control on the overpass due to black ice.

The truck overturned and the driver, a 27-year-old Hampton man, had to be extricated, Maynard said.

The driver had a few scratches from the accident but no major injuries, he said.

Traffic is blocked on westbound side of J Clyde Morris Boulevard, causing backups in the area.
