HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton police got a call about a fight involving a large number of children in Phoebus on Saturday. Officers showed up. A bunch of other fights started, and five people were charged.
Police said the call about the initial fight in the 200 block of West Kelly Avenue came at around 5:45 p.m. Officers who went there started collecting information. Then, family members of someone who seemed to be involved in the fight showed up. A number of other fights started, and several officers were assaulted.
As a result of what happened, two boys and a girl were charged. Police said two women also faced charges:
Whitney Johnson, Disorderly Conduct, Fighting in Public, and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
Maliaka Rencher, Disorderly Conduct
Rencher was released on a summons, so a mug shot was available only for Johnson.
Police said two of the people went to Sentara CarePlex Hospital for treatment of some minor injuries.
No officers actually were hurt during the incident.
