HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Hampton Police said some of their officers were involved in a shooting that sent one person to the hospital on Thursday morning.

The incident happened on Jacklyn Circle in Michaels Woods shortly after 9 a.m. when police were called to the neighborhood in reference to a possible burglary.

Arriving officers encountered the suspect, 36-year-old Mark Shante Harrison, who police said was armed with a knife. In the ensuing confrontation, Harrison charged at the officers and was then shot by officers multiple times.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries. He is currently suffering from non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.

Harrison has been charged with one count of Attempted Non-Capital Offense/ Maiming.

The shooting remains under investigation. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, pending the criminal and internal investigations.
