Man arrested for April shooting in Hampton

Police are searching for an armed and dangerous man who shot someone on April 24.

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have arrested a fugitive wanted in connection with an April 2018 shooting in Hampton.

Caleb Devon Ovanati Freeman is charged with one count of Aggravated Malicious Wounding, one count of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, one count of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, and one count of a Felony Failure to Appear.

Investigators say that around 3:30 p.m. on April 24, emergency communications received a call about a shooting in the 700 block of Childs Avenue. Once on the scene, police found a 48-year-old victim. He had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

On April 25, the victim remained hospitalized, but his condition was updated to non-life threatening.

Police said Friday that Freeman is now in custody at the Hampton City Jail.
