HAMPTON, Va., (WVEC) -- New beach markers have been installed on the Fort Monroe boardwalk in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The signs help residents give an accurate location in emergency situations, such as dialing 911 for assistance.

The brown signs have reflective numbers on them and are placed at every fourth light pole "approximately 200 yards apart," Hampton Fire said in a Facebook Post.

Sign No. 1 starts at the southern end next to the engineers pier and No. 12 is the last pole prior to Paradise Ocean Club.

Nos. 13 through 16 are on the other side of Paradise Ocean Club on the Dog Beach boardwalk.
