Special graduation at the hospital held for Hampton senior

A Kecoughtan High School senior missed her graduation ceremony because she's in the hospital, so the school brought a ceremony to her.

HAMPTON, Va. — A Kecoughtan High School senior missed her graduation ceremony because she's in the hospital, so the school brought a ceremony to her.

A special graduation was held for Destinee Cooke, who is dealing with some asthma complications, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton Monday after she missed the real graduation on Friday.

Kecoughtan administrators along with Dr. Jeffery Smith, Hampton City Schools superintendent, were in attendance.

Cooke said she watched her peers graduate on the TV Friday, but her own ceremony made up for missing out.

Hospital personnel lined the hallway outside the classroom and applaud Cooke as she went to become a high school graduate. The ceremony was held in a classroom at the hospital.

"I'm just happy I got to do all of this, and get my diploma still. I'm very grateful," Cooke said.

Cooke said her plans for the future include going to cosmetology school.

Congratulations!
