NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police took a man and a woman into custody Wednesday after the woman's relative said the man was holding the woman against her will.
Emergency dispatchers received a call from the family member just before 11:40 a.m. The relative said an armed man was holding the woman inside a home in the 500 block of Bellwood Rd.
Officers were out there for three hours before the Newport News Police Department activated its tactical operations unit.
Police took the man and woman into custody around 4:30 p.m. after both surrendered.
Police said both suspects, 35-year-old Travis Smith and 33-year-old Najalah Scott, had outstanding warrants against them.
In addition to being charged with their warrants, both Smith and Scott are charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
