Newport News Police Foundation, Cozzy's Comedy Club holding fundraiser for Officer Katie Thyne's daughter

All proceeds from both shows will go toward the trust fund for Officer Katie Thyne's daughter. So far, the fund has raised $60,000.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Foundation is continuing its support of fallen Officer Katie Thyne's family with a comedy night fundraiser this week.

The two-day event on Feb. 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. features comedian Charlie Wiener. 

All proceeds from both shows will go toward the trust fund for Thyne's daughter. So far, the fund has raised $60,000.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton President Liz Rollins is emceeing the shows.

Rollins said Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew will attend both events.

A memorial service was held early this month to honor the memory of Officer Katie Thyne, who was killed on January 23. Thyne was dragged by a car during a traffic stop. The car crashed into a tree and pinned her.

Officers escorted her body from Newport News to her hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts, where she was laid to with full military and police honors.
