NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A family is without a home following a house fire in Norfolk on Thursday morning.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue say a woman arrived at the residence in the 100 block of Beechwood Avenue to visit her brother when she noticed smoke coming from the home.

No one was inside the home at the time.

Firefighters arrived at about 11:45 a.m. and noticed light smoke visible on the first floor of the home. They searched the residence and were able to contain the fire to its area of origin, which appears to be at or near the clothes dryer.

The home is uninhabitable at this time, but the residents do not need assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
