NORFOLK, Va. — Over a century old tall sailing ship will be docking in Downtown Norfolk.

'HNoMS Statsraad Lehmkuhl' will be docking at Otter Berth near Townpoint Park on Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. until Friday, March 15.

This will be the ship's 14th visit to Norfolk.

During its one week visit, the ship will provide public educational tours. Free self-guided tours will be available on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted steel barque sailing training vessel that was built in 1914 in Germany. She was a training ship for the German merchant marine. After World War I, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl was taken by England, and as of 1923, has since sailed under the Norwegian flag.

The 70 cadets, Royal Norwegian Naval Academy’s first-year cadets, on board will visit Washington D.C. from March 11 to March 14 before shipping out on March 15.

Norfolk is the only port of call in the United States for the Statsraad Lehmkuhl.
