NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- An Ocean View house was destroyed after a fire ripped through it on Sunday night.

Battalion Chief Joe Milligan tells 13News Now a Norfolk Police officer alerted emergency crews to the fire in the 200 block of West Ocean View Avenue just after 9 p.m.

Mulligan says one person was inside the home when the fire started. He was able to get out without injuries.

When firefighters arrived, they reported the house engulfed in flames, which were starting to spread to the houses on either side.

A total of 18 trucks and 45 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was under control by 11:08 p.m.

It is unknown how many people are displaced at this time. No word on what sparked the fire.
