Kentucky murder suspect caught in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC/WHAS) -- A man wanted in connection to a Louisville area fatal shooting was apprehended in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC/WHAS) -- A man wanted in connection to a Louisville area fatal shooting was apprehended in Norfolk.

25-year-old Shane Van Williams was one of two suspects involved in the shooting death of Joseph Key on August 21 in Shively, Kentucky.

Norfolk Police tell 13News Now that Kentucky law enforcement officials tipped them off to the possible location of Van WIlliams. He was arrested in the 7400 block of North Military Highway.

Once Van Williams was arrested in Norfolk, Shively Police Detectives traveled there to confiscate evidence in the case and are heading back to Kentucky.

The second suspect, 23-year-old Dion Cummings, was arrested on Saturday. Cummings is charged with facilitation to murder and facilitation to first degree robbery.

Shively Police is calling Cummings and Van Williams co-conspirators. Investigators say Van Williams is likely the shooter.

Shively Police Sgt. Josh Meyers said one of the suspects knew the victim had heroin in his possession and wanted to steal it. Key was shot during the struggle.

Van Williams is being held in Virginia and is awaiting extradition back to Kentucky.

Meyers credits the great help form the Norfolk Police Department and it's fugitive task force in tracking down Van Williams.

Investigators say no other arrests are expected in this case.
