New areas of Battleship Wisconsin opening to the public

Also on May 18 and 19, all admission to the Norfolk museum is only $7.50.

NORFOLK, Va. — Nauticus is offering a pretty sweet deal this weekend to celebrate Battleship Wisconsin's 75th anniversary.

On May 18 and 19, all admission to the Norfolk museum is only $7.50.

Additionally, more than 10,000 square-feet of new areas of the ship's lower deck will open to the public beginning on Saturday. The new areas include the hospital, Chief's mess, "geedunk" (snack bar), and famous "Broadway." Other spaces have been newly interpreted.

It's all part of a year-long celebration Nauticus is holding to commemorate the Wisconsin's 75th anniversary.

The ship, which was commissioned on April 16, 1944, played a key role in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Operation Desert Shield. The vessel earned five battle stars for service and was once home to nearly 3,000 men.

The ship's final decommissioning was in 1991, and it was then moved to Nauticus in 2000 as a floating museum.
