NORFOLK, Va. — The City of Norfolk is looking for artists to turn trash into treasure.

They need artists to paint 55-gallon metal drum trash cans with cool designs and catchy slogans at Lafayette Park. The program is part of the city's "Keep Norfolk Beautiful" campaign.

A total of 15 cans will be painted, and artists may be selected to paint no more than four cans.

If you want to get involved, you'll need to submit your design to the city by February 22. Artists will be paid $100 per trash can, and all supplies will be provided.

To apply, please submit two to five JPEG images of your past work and/or a design for one or more painted 55-gallon metal trash cans to katie.white@norfolk.gov. Put “trash cans” in subject line.
