People rush to hardware store ahead of snow

Sales of snow supplies spiked at Taylor's Do It Center in Norfolk on Thursday.

NORFOLK, Va. — People rushed to hardware stores ahead of Thursday’s winter storm.

At Taylor’s Do It Center in Norfolk, customers were in and out throughout the entire day to stock up on snow supplies.

With a spike in shovel and ice melt sales, managers stocked up on supplies days in advance.

David Price, an assistant manager at the hardware store said their busiest days are usually before a storm hits.

“Today is one of those days that the snow is supposed to come. When the snow comes, people need ice melt, rock salt and shovels for the household as well and as some other things you might need for survival,” said Price.

Price recommends keeping a snow kit in your car, with things like flashlights, batteries, jumper cables, rope, and blankets.

“Hopefully you won’t need it that much, but it’s always good to be prepared,” said Price.

Customers like Juanice Hendrix said they didn’t want to take a chance with this storm.

“I said, 'Let me just be a little cautious this time...' Just a little bit of wisdom, you prepare just in case,” said Hendrix.

While she prepared, she said she doesn’t look forward to snow.

“It's an inconvenience, and it shuts the city down,” said Hendrix.
