NORFOLK, Va. — A Virginia State Trooper crashed his vehicle during a pursuit Tuesday night, near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya, the trooper had tried to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle that had been reported stolen.

The motorcyclist did not stop, and a chase ensued down Interstate 64, with the motorcycle reportedly reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Just before entering the westbound HRBT tunnel, the trooper hit a jersey wall, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Sgt. Anaya said the trooper was able to crawl out of his car. He had been wearing his seatbelt and had only minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

State Police eventually caught up with the motorcyclist on Interstate 64 at the Mallory Street exit in Hampton, where he lost control and went into a ditch. He tried fleeing on foot, but was quickly caught be troopers.

The suspect, 42-year-old Ojoh Ajamu Folayan Henderson, was arrested and charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, possession of stolen property, and destruction of state property.

Henderson is currently being held at Virginia Beach City Jail.
