Wawa employee shot, killed in robbery in Norfolk

Someone shot and killed a 38-year-old woman who worked at the Wawa on East Little Creek Road while she sat in her car.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police were investigating a shooting that left a 38-year-old Wawa employee dead outside of the convenience store where she worked.

Police said it happened around 11 p.m. Sunday while the employee, Helena B. Stiglets was in her car at the Wawa located at 975 East Little Creek Road.

Medics took her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she died. Emergency dispatchers told 13News Now the incident started as a robbery.

Loyal customers said they're upset to hear this happen to the business they've become so fond of.

Customer Samueal Wiggins said he comes here every day before work.

“They have some good employees here and I love coming here," he said. "[The shooter] had no regard for human life. That was somebody’s daughter, somebody’s mother, and it’s sad.”

The crime even shocks visitors. Ken Pollock is in Norfolk to see his family, who lives one block away from the crime scene.

"I never in my wildest thought that on vacation, right around the corner, some incident like this would’ve taken place," said Pollock. “I just wish and pray for that family, that they will recover, and I hope that they catch the person that committed this crime.”
