FRIDAY FLAVOR: Dock of the Bay in Portsmouth

The waterfront restaurant specializes in seafood — including their popular shrimp tempura tacos.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Dock of the Bay in Portsmouth is a family owned and operated restaurant with boat access and spectacular water views. It is owned by husband and wife duo, Sean and Jolanda Duffee.

Their specialty is seafood. Duffee explained, “I worked for a seafood restaurant for many years. It used to be in Norfolk and they moved me up to their restaurants in Baltimore and Ocean City, Maryland. That’s where I met my wife.”

Together, they opened Dock of the Bay in May 2014.

When asked what makes them unique from other restaurants in the area, Duffee responded, “I would say our American-Mexican mix on the plates and our family environment. I definitely think that’s what we’re shooting for; A comfortable place for group gatherings where you know everyone’s going to be happy.”

Dock of the Bay features dinner and drink specials through the week including a three-course meal for two for $40, and half off wine on Wednesdays. According to Duffee, their top-selling item is their shrimp tempura tacos.
