PORTSMOUTH, Va., (WVEC) -- A man accused of trying to run over state Sen. Louise Lucas faced a judge Wednesday morning.

James Taliaferro, a former employee of a business Lucas runs, is charged with attempted murder.

Taliaferro waived his right to have a preliminary hearing in General District Court.

Taliaferro's case will go to the grand jury for indictment in Circuit Court.

Prosecutors nolle prossed, or withdrew, a vandalism charge.

Taliaferro's case will go to the grand jury June 7, Portsmouth Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Shaniqua Clark Nelson said.
