Police: Person fired shots during Portsmouth barricade situation

Police sent to the scene for a "suicide contemplation." The person barricaded themselves into a home and fired a few rounds.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department said a person fired shots during a barricade situation on Monday, but no one was injured.

Officers were called to the 10 block of Broda Court around noon on Monday for a "suicide contemplation." When officers arrived on the scene, the person refused to come out of the home and barricaded himself inside.

Hostage negotiators and the Portsmouth Police SWAT Team were sent to the scene to help out. 

During the situation, the man discharged several rounds from a firearm. 

Portsmouth Police Officers did not return fire at any point during the situation. 

The person was eventually taken into custody without incident and injury at 7:20 p.m.
