Police: Woman dies in hospital after Portsmouth crash

Police were investigating a "domestic assault" in a vehicle, when it left the scene and crashed. A woman died at the hospital, Portsmouth Police said.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — Portsmouth Police Department is investigating a crash that left a woman dead Saturday morning.

Around 1:48 a.m., police received a 911 call requesting response to the 3700 block of Princeton Place for a "possible domestic assault" in a vehicle, PIO Lt. B.K. Hall said.

Officers said the vehicle fled the scene and then crashed at the intersection of Kingman and Rodman avenues.

Both people in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital. Hall said the woman in the vehicle died at the hospital.

The investigation is still ongoing.
