Portsmouth amphitheater undegoes name change

The music venue will now be named Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth's amphitheater has a new name.

The entertainment venue will now be known as the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion. It's a continuation of a five-year partnership between Atlantic Union Bank and the amphitheater's promoter.

The name sponsorship is actually the same bank as before; the venue was previously called the "Union Bank & Trust Pavilion," but earlier this year Union Bank & Trust announced it would be changing its name to Atlantic Union Bank.

Tuesday's announcement comes as nearly year-long repairs to the pavilion's roof are completed ahead of the 2019 summer concert season.

The first show will be Styx on Thursday, June 20 followed by Slightly Stoopid on June 21.
