Portsmouth Sheriff's Office offers free rides home

The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office are offering a free 'Safe Ride Home' program New Year's Eve!

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — This New Year's Eve, the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office wants everyone to get home safe.

To ring in 2019, they are offering the 'Safe Ride Home' program. People who have been drinking and need a safe ride home can contact the sheriff's office to get a free ride home.

Deputies will be dispatched between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. for rides. The rides are free of charge, but they will only be given within the City of Portsmouth, to a home or hotel in the city or within a 10-mile radius of the city.
