PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman is facing numerous charges after she allegedly shoplifted at a Portsmouth Food Lion and then led police on a chase, getting into an accident and hitting another woman with her vehicle.
Investigators say the incident happened shortly before noon at the Food Lion grocery store at 1503 London Boulevard. Police received a shoplifting call and as officers responded, the female suspect fled the scene with her vehicle, narrowly missing a uniformed officer. Police then initiated a pursuit.
Police say the woman tried turning onto Constitution Avenue from London Boulevard, where she hit a white pickup truck. As a woman passenger got out of the truck to inspect the damage, the suspect allegedly hit her with her vehicle while leaving the scene.
The passenger was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect, meanwhile, continued to elude police before finally crashing at London Boulevard and Broad Street. She was taken into custody without further incident.
Police say charges against the woman are pending.
