PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Virginia State Police spent hours investigating the scene of a shooting on I-264 westbound in Portsmouth Monday.

Portsmouth Police Department contacted the communications center around 4:45 p.m. Monday. The incident was on Interstate 264 westbound just before Victory Boulevard before the Downtown Tunnel.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a white Nissan Xterra was traveling west on I-264 when it interacted with another vehicle in a possible altercation/aggressive driving situation.

Someone in the other vehicle shot at the Nissan and seriously injured the driver. The Nissan driver was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
