Teen arrested after posting social media threat against Suffolk high school

Police arrested an 18-year-old Nansemond River High School student for threatening to harm others at the school.

SUFFOLK, Va. — The Suffolk Police Department arrested a teen for posting threats against a high school on social media in the fall of 2019.

Nansemond River High School student 18-year-old Samuel Allen Ritter was arrested on January 18 on the following charges:

  • Threat: In Writing/Electronic Message At School/School Event (Felony)
  • Threatening Phone Calls (Misdemeanor)

The Suffolk police were contacted on October 9, 2019, after a student informed a member of the school administration of a threat that was posted on Snapchat.

Officers learned that Ritter made specific threats related to harming students at the school.
