VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Emergency workers had to call for Nightingale after a car hit a child Thursday morning.
Her aunt, Angela Brown said that the girl was seven years old.
Virginia Beach police officers said the car hit the girl around 11:15 a.m. in the 5700 block of Albright Drive. Her injuries were life-threatening.
Master Police Officer Linda Kuehn said the driver of the car involved stayed at the scene for the investigation.
Brown told us she, her brother, and their respective kids live on the street.
She said they chose to live along the block because they thought it was a kid-friendly, safe place for children to play.”
Brown said her brother was outside as his daughter played on a scooter, and when she was hit, he yelled for her help.
The girl's father carried her into the house, unconscious.
“He had her laid on the sofa and I thought she was dead," said Brown.
Brown called 911 as she watched her family fall apart.
“To see him [her brother], you know, laying over his daughter I was, I don’t even know," she said. "There’s no words for that.”
Medics arrived quickly, as Brown said the child came in and out of seizures.
“[Medics] were talking to her and they were telling her how pretty her hair was and that she was going to be all right,” Brown said.
The girl's aunt said she already forgave the driver.
“My heart goes out to the woman that was driving the vehicle," she said. "I mean it’s not her fault either, mistakes happen.”
She believes the accident was an easy mistake to make, since “there’s tons of cars and the street is tight, so there’s no visibility coming from that way whatsoever.”
