VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Firefighters are working to determine the cause of a house fire that killed a family pet Sunday morning in Virginia Beach.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 2600 block of Shore Drive at 2:33 a.m. and arrived to find a single-story home with heavy flames showing.

According to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, the two residents of the home were found outside and taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

One family pet died in the fire, officials said.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
