VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Fire crews were at the Virginia Beach General District Courthouse early Thursday morning after a call came in saying someone could smell smoke from the building.
The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office said the building was cleared and would be open to the public with normal operating hours.
The office said the cause of the smoke smell was due to a "burned out HVAC motor."
Earlier, dispatch said they received the call about the smell of smoke from the courthouse around 5:40 a.m.
There were about 10 fire trucks at the scene around 6 a.m.
Virginia Beach Fire Department and City of Virginia Beach engineers assisted at the scene, officials said.
