'Floatopia mom' found guilty of DWI

The DWI offense is unrelated to current charges she faces in relation to child abuse at last month's Floatopia event in Virginia Beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The woman charged with child abuse and public intoxication after police said she left her children alone for hours at Floatopia in Virginia Beach was convicted on an unrelated charge on Thursday.

A judge found Shelby Oliver guilty of Driving While Intoxicated, second offense. She had been pulled over for a second time last November, before that, in May of 2018.

Oliver was sentenced to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

She still faces charges stemming from last month's Floatopia at Chic's Beach. According to police, Oliver had left her children alone for hours while she was drunk. One of her children, a baby, was found extremely overheated while a 7-year-old child was left without any supervision.
