VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A woman on the run with her nine-year-old son from Wisconsin was found in Virginia Beach.

On December 23, the Sauk County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office was alerted to a missing child. Nine-year-old Mason Byrdic was being taken care of by his grandparents, ordered by the State of Virginia Courts, who live in Sauk County.

Around 11 a.m., the grandparents agreed to allow the child's mother, 29-year-old Julia Anne Byrdic of Pompano Beach, Florida, to take the child for a short visit.

Byrdic did not bring her son back to his grandparents, as they agreed.

Deputies believed the mother took the child out of the state, and after investigating, officials learned that the mother possibly took the child to Virginia Beach.

On Thursday, in coordination with the Virginia Beach Police Department, officers were sent to a location where they found Julia and Mason hiding in a back bedroom.

Officers took Julia Byrdic into custody and charged her with interference with Custody-Beyond Visitation, which is a Class F Felony. She will be awaiting extradition back to Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Mason is safe and with the Virginia Beach Police Department and Child Protective Services, and he is waiting for his guardians, who are on their way to Virginia, to pick him up.
